RB Leipzig have agreed a deal with Red Bull Salzburg manager Jesse Marsch to take over from Julian Nagelsmann when he departs for Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Bayern wasted little time finding Hansi Flick’s replacement, who recently announced he would be leaving Bavaria in the summer following an alleged falling out with the club’s hierarchy, confirming that Nagelsmann would be taking over on Tuesday. Flick is now expected to take the Germany job following the summer’s European Championship.
Leipzig have been equally efficient in finding their next manager. According to Kicker, an agreement has been found with their sister club RB Salzburg for Marsch to take over at the end of the campaign. The American is well schooled in Red Bull’s footballing philosophy, managing the group’s New York team between 2015 and 2018 before joining Leipzig as Ralf Rangnick’s assistant.
A move to Salzburg followed where he has enjoyed much success. He guided Salzburg to the Austrian Bundesliga and UNIQA ÖFB Cup double last season and he could repeat the trick this time out. Die Roten Bullen are eight points clear at the top of table with only a handful of games remaining and also meet LASK in the Austrian Cup final on Saturday.
Marsch has also helped to bring through several impressive talented players during his time at the club. Erling Haaland and Dominik Szoboszlai – whom he will link back up with in Germany – both came on leaps and bounds under Marsch, while Patson Daka is similarly highly rated.
Marsch was loosely linked with a move to Celtic in the past, with Kicker claiming he turned down advances from Tottenham before taking the Leipzig job. Spurs were also interested in Nagelsmann, though reports suggest they are now eyeing up Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.
