The German Football Association (DFB) have confirmed that they will soon begin talks with Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick over replacing Joachim Low.
Low will depart the hot seat after more than 15 years in charge following this summer’s European Championships. During his time as manager he led Die Mannschaft to the Euro 2008 final and won the World Cup in 2014.
Flick, who steered Bayern to a famous treble last season, has already confirmed that he will depart Bavaria in the summer with the 56-year-old a firm favourite for the Germany job.
The DFB have now confirmed that he is their top target with negotiations set to begin soon.
“It is well known that Hansi Flick is held in high esteem by the DFB. We can confirm that, against this background, we will now hold talks with him and those responsible at FC Bayern,” the association told SID.
“We are currently not going to comment on the further procedure, which we will initially coordinate internally with all parties involved with all due care and calm.” they added
Flick will be replaced at Bayern by RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann. The highly-rated German was briefly linked with a move to Tottenham but both clubs have since confirmed that Nagelsmann will take over at the Allianz Arena.
He joins Die Roten at somewhat of a transitional time. Long serving defenders Jerome Boateng and David Alaba are both on their way out with Dayot Upamecano poised to follow Nagelsmann from Leipzig as their replacement. Despite this, he will still be expected to secure the club’s 10th straight Bundesliga title next season with top spot all but assured this time out.
With Nagelsmann out of the picture, and Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers turning them down, Tottenham are expected to turn to Ajax’s Erik ten Hag as their new manager.
