Senegal and Ivory Coast have been chosen to compete in the 2022 African Nations Championship.
Senegal, the reigning African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, and Ivory Coast, the continental superpower, have been drawn together for the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The biennial event, which will take place in Algeria in January and February 2023, will include 18 teams competing in five groups. Participants must only be players competing in their respective domestic national league competitions.
Senegal has been drawn in Group B, which includes two-time AFCON champions Ivory Coast, as well as DR Congo and Uganda. In the playoffs, DR Congo lost to Morocco for a place in the 2022 World Cup.
Algeria is in Group A with 2014 champions Libya, Ethiopia, and Mozambique, while Morocco, who has won the previous two African Nations Championships, is in Group C with Ghana, Sudan, and Madagascar.
Group D includes Mali, Angola, and Mauritania, while Group E includes Cameroon, Congo, and Niger.
Egypt, which lost last year’s AFCON final against Senegal, and 2022 World Cup participants Tunisia did not qualify, but Nigeria did.
