Jesse Lingard is eagerly anticipating his return to the field after joining FC Seoul as a free agent, marking a new chapter in his career.
The 31-year-old, formerly of Manchester United and England, had been without a club since departing Nottingham Forest in May 2023.
Lingard expressed his excitement about the opportunity to revive his career in South Korea’s K League, emphasizing his readiness to embrace the culture and contribute to FC Seoul.
Addressing the media at Seoul World Cup Stadium, Lingard shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m very excited. It’s a new challenge.
I’m here and I’m ready to embrace the culture. It’s a new beginning for me, a new chapter in my career. I just want to enjoy playing football again, putting a smile on people’s faces and showing Korean fans what I can do.”
Amid much speculation about his future, Lingard acknowledged receiving multiple offers during the summer. However, FC Seoul’s commitment and the tangible contract they presented stood out for him.
Lingard praised the club’s interest and determination, highlighting the swift negotiation process facilitated by his supportive team.
Reflecting on the deal, Lingard emphasized, “Negotiations take a lot of time, there’s a lot of people that become involved and it can get messy.
But I had the right team around me at the time of this deal, and we negotiated it within two or three days. Everyone was happy with the deal, and now I’ve finally signed, I can concentrate on my football.”
Expressing his competitive spirit, Lingard added, “I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch and winning with FC Seoul because I’m a winner, I’m a competitor, and I want to win trophies while I’m here.”
Lingard also took to Instagram to convey his excitement for the new beginnings and express gratitude for the support he has received in Korea.
