Los Angeles FC, leader of the MLS Western Conference, anticipates that Gareth Bale, its latest signing, will debut with his new team on July 8 in the derby against the Los Angeles Galaxy, according to the general manager of the Welshman’s new club, John Thorrington.
Bale, five-time European champion with Real Madrid, is the latest addition to a LAFC that announced on Monday the contract renewal of Carlos Vela and, a few weeks ago, the signing of veteran Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.
While waiting for the bureaucratic process with the United States immigration department to finish, the LAFC plans for Bale to join the group at the beginning of July to have minutes against the Galaxy.
Thorrington considered that LAFC represented a “unique opportunity” for Bale, for what he needs for this new step in his career.
“The process was as follows. Immediately after the match in which Wales qualified for the World Cup we were in contact with Gareth’s representative. We discussed the opportunity here, unique in my opinion for Gareth ,” Thorrington said.
“And it was also important what Gareth needed in the next step of his career. It was a perfect combination for what he wants for the World Cup and for us , for what he can give us on the pitch,” Thorrington added.
