Borussia Dortmund has completed the signing of Ajax striker Sebastien Haller on a four-year contract for an initial fee of £26.5 million.
The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international scored 47 goals in 65 games for the Dutch giants after joining them from West Ham in January 2021.
Despite a dismal Premier League stint in which he scored only 10 goals in 48 games, the centre forward thrived with the Amsterdam club.
Between 2017 and 2019, Haller scored 33 goals in 77 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt and is excited to play in front of Dortmund’s famed fans.
“The stadium is magnificent, but the greatest stadium is worthless without its fans,” he remarked.
“As a member of the BVB family, I can’t wait to feel the love of over 80,000 fans in the future.”
“We’ll hopefully accomplish great things together in the next years and be able to celebrate together as well.”
The 28-year-old was the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season, with 21 goals, in addition to a sensational Champions League campaign in which he scored 11 goals in only seven starts.
After losing Erling Haaland to Manchester City earlier this summer, BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl was overjoyed to have Haller fill the No9 shirt.
“We’re really thrilled to have signed Sebastien Haller – a seasoned centre forward who has lately generated a sensation in the Champions League, but who also understands the Bundesliga in particular and has already proved his talent and high-quality finishing there,” he continued.
“The total product appears to be quite promising.” Sebastien has a commanding physical presence and is physically tough.
“With his experience, he can also provide stability and assistance to our young attacking players.”
“During our discussions, he made it clear that he had huge objectives for BVB.”
