Tottenham in advanced talks with Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram

Tottenham are leading the race to secure the signing of highly-rated Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram.

The Frenchman’s future has been the source of much speculation in recent weeks, with his stellar form since joining the German outfit back in 2019 attracting admiring glances from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Despite a whole host of attacking options available to France manager Didier Deschamps, Thuram’s stellar displays have seen him earn a place in Les Bleus’ squad for this summer’s delayed Euro 2020 finals – with Monchengladbach no doubt expecting an increased interest in their star man after the tournament.

However, it seems things may not even reach that point, with RMC Sport reporting that Thuram is destined to leave the Bundesliga outfit this summer and Spurs are already holding talks with the youngster.

With Gareth Bale’s loan deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having come to an end and Dutch international Steven Bergwijn failing to cement his place in the starting XI since his move to north London, Spurs’ frontline is desperately in need of reinforcements.

That being said, the news will no doubt raise the question of whether Spurs are preparing for life without Harry Kane after the England man reportedly signalled his intention to leave the club this summer.

It remains to be seen whether the move for Thuram is linked to Kane’s future, though for now Tottenham appear to be leading the race to sign one of the hottest young forwards in European football.

Talks between Thuram and Tottenham are said to have accelerated in recent days, perhaps the first indication of the impact Fabio Paratici could have at the club.

Despite not having officially been announced as a Spurs employee yet, the former Juventus man has reportedly already agreed to move to north London and will oversee all footballing matters in a general manager role rather than just a sporting director as he was towards the end of his time in Turin.
