FIFA has confirmed that Szymon Marciniak will officiate the World Cup final between Argentina and France on Sunday.
Marciniak has already presided over games involving both finalists in Qatar, directing France’s 2-1 group-stage triumph over Denmark and Argentina’s 2-1 last-16 success over Australia.
The Polish official, who also officiated at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has issued only five yellow cards in his two games this year and has yet to issue a single penalty or red card.
Some referees have been chastised for their performances in the knockout phases of the World Cup, including Antonio Mateu Lahoz, who booked 15 players in Argentina’s quarter-final triumph over the Netherlands.
The Moroccan Football Federation has filed a protest with FIFA about referee Cesar Ramos’ performance during Morocco’s World Cup semi-final loss to France on Wednesday.
FIFA has also announced that Qatar’s Abdulrahman Al Jassim would officiate the third-place playoff between Croatia and Morocco on Saturday.
