Sergio Aguero is set to sign a two-year deal with Barcelona this summer, having previously confirmed his imminent departure from Manchester City.
The 32-year-old is able to leave Eastlands as a free agent after bringing an end to his decade-long spell in English football. His availability is an enticing prospect for many European clubs and he has been linked with moves to Spain, Italy and his home country of Argentina.
But TyC Sports reports that Aguero is ready to join Barcelona in the summer and he will sign a two-year deal with the Catalan giants, ending any speculation over his future.
Barça are in need of a new centre forward, having failed to replace the departed Luis Suarez in the summer transfer window. New president Joan Laporta sees the chance to sign Aguero for free as too good an opportunity to miss.
With the club in serious financial difficulty and unable to spend big in the summer, there may not be a better alternative on the market. The Liga giants have put a two-year contract on the table for the experienced forward and it seems to have made up Aguero’s mind over his future.
This offer comes in the light of interest from Italian champions Juventus, who are also willing to make Aguero a lucrative offer. In fact, I Bianconeri boast the financial firepower to present the Argentine with an even better contract. Despite their interest, he appears to have his heart set on a return to Spain.
The prolific forward has already proven his ability in La Liga, making his name in Europe with Atletico Madrid. His sensational displays led to a big-money move to Man City in 2011, where he has gone on to win every domestic trophy on offer, as well as becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
However, injuries have hampered his final season in Manchester and the team appears to have moved on without him.
