Inter star Romelu Lukaku has stated he is currently one of the five best strikers in world football, having made another prolific start to the new season – and we at 90min agree, having picked the forward for our #W2WC series.
The 27-year-old has been a smash hit in Italy since leaving Manchester United at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, scoring 34 goals in all competitions last year, and kicking off the new season with 11 league goals in 13 matches.
And his blistering form over the past five months has led Lukaku to believe that he is now one of the top five strikers in the world, although he refused the opportunity to create a concrete list…which is fine because we at 90min have created one for him that will be released at 17:00 GMT on Wednesday 30 December (keep an eye on our Twitter for said list).
“In the past five months, yes. I don’t want to rank that group from one to five, but I’m part of it right now,” he told Voetbal, as cited by Goal.
Lukaku was also crowned the most productive player in UEFA competitions over the course of 2020, scoring four goals in the Champions League, seven in the Europa League and five in the Nations League with Belgium.
His record across the board has been fantastic since leaving the Red Devils, and he has recaptured the form that convinced the Premier League giants to spend over £75m on his services in 2017.
The Belgian striker is aiming to write his name into Inter history by steering them to their first league title since 2010, and his relentless goalscoring his fired I Nerazzurri into second place in Serie A, only one point behind unbeaten rivals Milan.
The Italian giants could ignite one of the most exciting title races in recent history, with the two arch enemies going head to head, while current holders Juventus attempt to climb up the table from sixth place.
Whatever happens, Inter will need Lukaku at his devastating best to clinch the Scudetto.
