Manchester City starlet Phil Foden has lavished praise on Mason Greenwood, calling the Manchester United striker the best finisher he’s ever seen.
Greenwood has been in a fantastic form since the Premier League returned in June, netting three goals in his last four games, including a fine brace against Bournemouth last Saturday.
The 18-year-old’s lethal finishing has earned him a lot of admirers and Foden has become the latest to tip the Bradford-born youngster for superstardom.
“Mason Greenwood, the best I’ve seen finishing wise. He’s both footed. In and around the box, he’s always going to score,” Foden said in the latest episode of Premier League Uncut.
“High up finishing wise [compared to Sergio Aguero]. For his age, he’s unbelievable. I don’t know how he does it, to be honest.”
“Just the right type of shot, you know what I mean. He knows when to finesse or lace it and he shoots quick, the keeper is never stable or set.”
Greenwood and Foden have featured together for England’s Under 21s on several occasions and both have been tipped to earn senior Three Lions call-ups in the near future. The Citizens prospect has also been enjoying his football since the restart, featuring more regularly in the first team and grabbing four goals since shutdown ended.
Greenwood’s fine form has led to some doubt over whether United need to spend big to secure long term target Jadon Sancho in the summer. The pair play in the same position and many Red Devils fans want to see the homegrown prospect become a permanent fixture of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI next season.
We first reported on United’s pursuit in Sancho back in September and their interest has rarely wavered since, though Borussia Dortmund’s €100m (£87m) asking price may yet prove to be too high.
