Pedri may need to invest in some hats soon with the Barcelona youngster vowing to shave his head if Spain win Euro 2020.
The midfielder has had a terrific tournament so far, not missing a single minute of La Roja’s campaign. Although he is yet to register a goal or an assist, Pedri’s retention of the ball and driving runs have been key to his side’s success. Incredibly, no player has covered more distance at Euro 2020 than the teenager (61.5km).
A win against Switzerland last time out booked Spain a place in a the semi-finals and after the game he revealed he would be celebrating in unorthodox fashion if the team went all the way.
“I’m a little tired, but at 18 I have the strength for much more,” Pedri told Deportes Cuatro (via Heavy).
“All the teams are good. Everyone can eliminate everyone and it will be a great game. It is a dream to be able to wear the Barça and Spain shirt. I hope I can enjoy it [the semi-final]. If we win the European Championship I will shave my head.”
As he is just 18 Pedri can at least be confident that his hair should return to its pre-victory vigour before too long should Spain secure the trophy.
The stunt would be typical of the wonderkid’s fearlessness. Pedri plays with the maturity of a senior pro and is already a key cog at both international and club level. He will be looking to build upon his breakout season at Barcelona this coming campaign.
Last term he missed just one La Liga game scoring three goals and registering three assists. Despite Pedri excelling the club endured a pretty underwhelming campaign. They fell short in the title race, crashed out in the Champions League round of 16 and there was plenty of turmoil off the field.
