Manchester United Ready to Double Scott McTominay’s Wages & Tie Him to New 5-Year Contract
Manchester United are eager to reward Scott McTominay’s impressive form with a new contract that will double his weekly wage.
Despite the Red Devils’ inconsistent start to the campaign, McTominay has blossomed into one of their most important players, making 18 appearances so far this season.
He has been one of the first names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team sheet this season, and The Sun claim that United want to reward that with a new long-term contract which would see his wages doubled to £60,000 per week.
The Scotland international only penned a new deal back in January and remains under contract until 2023, but United believe that he has earned himself a significant pay rise to reflect his importance to the team.
This potential new contract is understood to last until 2025, while United also want the option to extend it by a further 12 months, just as they have with his current deal.
The hope is that talks can begin soon and be wrapped up fairly quickly, and there is a confidence that negotiations will go smoothly as both sides want to make things work.
“It’s fair to say we are delighted with how Scott has responded to signing his first big contract,” a club source is quoted as saying.
“Some players tail off but he has got his head down and justified the faith the club have shown in him. We have always made it clear the big money will come if the younger players perform, they don’t need to be looking enviously elsewhere for it. Scott is a prime example of someone who has taken his chance when it came and we will recognise his elevated status.”
McTominay has put in a number of fantastic showings this season, but one of his finest performances came in Saturday’s 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City. Alongside Fred, the Scot dominated in midfield and helped inspire United to back-to-back victories.
There had been plenty of interest from clubs in England and Scotland to take McTominay on loan this season, but United chose to remain committed to him, and they are certainly reaping the rewards right now.
