Kevin De Bruyne signs Man City contract extension until 2025

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has signed a two-year contract extension that promises to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2025.

The 29-year-old, who arrived at the club from Wolfsburg in 2015, had been in talks over a new deal as far as back as November last year, having had just two years remaining on his previous contract.

Reports in January had suggested that De Bruyne had rejected City’s initial proposal, but talks have clearly progressed positively – with confirmation now coming via the club’s official website that pen has been put to paper on improved terms.

“I could not be happier,” De Bruyne said of his new deal. “Since joining City in 2015, I have felt at home. I love the fans, my family are settled here in Manchester and my own game has developed really well.

“This football club is geared for success. It offers me everything I need to maximise my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision. I am playing the best football of my career and I honestly feel there is more to come.

“Pep and I see football in the same way. Having that relationship with a manager is so important to me because our objectives are totally aligned and we want the same things.

“My focus now is on ensuring we have a successful end to the current campaign. Our results and performances so far have been excellent, but we need to make sure we end the season with the silverware we deserve.”

De Bruyne have will just celebrated his 34th birthday by the time his new City contract expires in 2025. A decade at the club would also match the stays of club legends David Silva, who left for Real Sociedad last summer, and Sergio Aguero, who will bid farewell this coming summer.
