Departing Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick is in advanced negotiations over becoming the manager of the German national team, despite Barcelona’s attempts to lure him to Spain.
Flick has long been linked with the Germany job, emerging as the favourite before he had even voiced his intention to leave Bayern at the end of the season, and talks over a contract have been ongoing for a while now.
It looks like we might be coming to the end of this saga as Sky Deutschland state that Flick has made it abundantly clear that he wants the Germany job and is now in advanced negotiations with the DFB over a fixed contract.
Flick is expected to take his time to finalise his decision, but there is very little doubt in his mind. He wants Germany and Germany want him. Easy.
A potential spanner in the works was thrown by Barcelona, who are on the lookout for somebody to replace current boss Ronald Koeman this summer.
According to RAC1, Flick has risen to the top of Barcelona’s wish list, with those in charge at Camp Nou keen to bring the German in before he puts pen to paper on a deal with his national team.
Barcelona have no money to buy a new manager this summer and instead must look to the free market for a signing. It’s for that reason that dream signings like Liverpool‘s Jurgen Klopp and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag have been ruled out.
The club have reached out to Flick in an attempt to bring him to Camp Nou, but despite this report suggestion he is ‘best positioned to take over’, it looks as though Flick’s gig as Germany boss is close to being confirmed.
Flick has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since replacing Niko Kovac in 2019. He has already won seven titles, including two Bundesliga trophies and was named the UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year for his debut season.
