Erling Haaland has been named Premier League Player of the Month for August after a brilliant start to his Manchester City career.
Haaland has scored nine goals in five Premier League appearances since arriving in England from Borussia Dortmund.
That total is the most ever achieved by a player in his or her first five appearances in the competition, and it included back-to-back hat-tricks in City’s high-scoring victories over Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
In August, Haaland averaged a goal every 44 minutes of league play, or every 12 touches of the ball, and converted 41% of his shots.
Since the end of the month, the Norwegian has gone from strength to strength, scoring a Champions League brace at Sevilla before returning to haunt Dortmund with a magnificent goal in City’s comeback victory on Wednesday.
Haaland has scored in each of City’s first three away Premier League games, including a goal against Aston Villa in September.
If he scores against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday, he will become the first player in the competition to score on each of their first four road trips.
Haaland beat out seven other nominees for the award, including former City striker Gabriel Jesus, who has impressed at Arsenal, and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, whose six Premier League goals this season are second only to Haaland’s ten.
