Ederson confirms COVID-19 isolation - is doubtful for Chelsea & Man Utd clashes

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has revealed he is currently isolating following the club’s recent burst of COVID-19 cases.

Pep Guaridola’s side saw their final fixture of 2020 against Everton postponed after it was revealed there had been a spike in cases at the club, including at least five players. That came following positive tests for first-team stars Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker on Christmas Day.

City revealed that there had been no further positive tests in the next round of testing, and resumed training immediately.

But the Brazilian shot-stopper, 27, has revealed in a new years post on Instagram that he is currently isolating away from his family which puts his involvement in the upcoming fixtures in doubt.

Ederson posted photos of himself and his family celebrating the end of 2020 with the caption reading, “same house, more different environments. away from my babies. happy New Year. God bless 2021.”

Man City are set to travel to Chelsea on Sunday January 3 in the Premier League, before a Carabao Cup semi-final against local rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford the following Wednesday.

Deputy goalkeeper Zack Steffen has featured in every Carabao Cup game this season, conceding twice, while also keeping a clean sheet in his Champions League debut against Marseille. It’s expected that he would step in once again should Ederson miss those games.

It would be a big blow to City’s defence, who have kept an impressive 11 clean sheets in their last 15 games in all competitions. Ederson has been a key figure in that run, with his excellent distribution and reflexes helping City to go on a ten game unbeaten run.
