Aguero meets with Barcelona

According to reports in Spain, Juventus transfer target Sergio Aguero is in advanced negotiations for a move to Barcelona. The striker is a free agent after his Manchester City contract ran down, so can make any move he wishes from July. Juve had been heavily linked with Kun Aguero, although Chelsea had been reportedly leading the race. Now El Chiringuito in Spain suggest Aguero’s agent is currently in Barcelona for negotiations with the Blaugrana. It would enable him to reunite at club level with his fellow Argentina international Lionel Messi. Aguero will turn 33 in June and has three goals in 15 competitive games for Manchester City this season. He has been in England since 2011, previously playing for Independiente and Atletico Madrid.

It’s time to give Karim Benzema the respect he truly deserves

In an era where football is correctly dominated by marvelling over the unfathomable greatness of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the pair battling it out for Ballon d'Ors like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the Attitude Era, plenty of talent goes underappreciated. It's warranted, because quite simply, no player will ever come close to the levels that Messi and Ronaldo have somehow managed to reach throughout their respective careers. There are always those who are overshadowed by such greatness, however, and in turn are criminally underappreciated. Step forward Karim Benzema. Perhaps the greatest player during this era of the beautiful game to not win football's ultimate individual accolade. Benzema is somehow underrated  Signing for Real Madrid from Lyon in 2009,

Lionel Messi misfires in El Clasico (again) as goalscoring burden weighs heavy

While Saturday evening's Clasico was hugely significant for the Spanish title race, it was also a potentially monumental moment in the derby's long and celebrated history. Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Barcelona meant that Los Merengues leapfrogged their two biggest rivals to climb to the top of La Liga, handing them the advantage heading into the final weeks of the season. But most importantly, it may well have been Lionel Messi's final Clasico of his career, as the Argentine continues to contemplate his future in Catalonia. If it were to be his final outing against the old foe - in which he equalled Sergio Ramos' record of appearing 45 times in this fixture - then it was a mightily disappointing

Ronald Koeman fumes over denied penalty in Clasico defeat

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman fumed at reporters after Barcelona's defeat to Real Madrid, questioning La Liga referees and VAR after Martin Braithwaite was denied a late penalty. Barça suffered a blow to their title hopes in Madrid despite threatening a comeback in the second half. They were 2-0 down at the break, but Oscar Mingueza gave them hope and there were strong appeals for a penalty when substitute Braithwaite went down under apparent contact from Ferland Mendy. The shout looked dubious; there may have been a slight tug on the arm, but the Dane appeared to simply lose his balance as the ball trundled out for a goal kick.Braithwaite goes down and Barca are livid that the referee hasn't given a

Real Madrid in La Liga title driving seat after superb Clasico display

Thank heavens the football Gods decided to put El Clasico front and centre stage on Saturday evening. The Premier League decided to take the evening off from pitting Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion against each other for the 17th time this season, instead putting their feet up to watch some proper football. And wasn't that the best decision they've made in a while? Many probably assumed that Saturday's clash would have been a bit of a damp squib. After all, the quality of football this season has dipped around the world, La Liga and their giants are far from the peak of their powers, and the fact that the match was being played at Real Madrid's training ground made

El Clasico: Twitter reacts as Real Madrid & Barcelona put on an unforgettable show

Wasn't it nice to have a Saturday evening dedicated to Spain and El Clasico? The Premier League and the Bundesliga took the evening off, Italy teased us with Udinese against Torino, and France stuck Montpellier and Marseille on centre court. Nah, you're alright thanks. There was only one feast for the eyes on Saturday, and that was Real Madrid hosting Barcelona in El Clasico. The biggy. With the two sides separated by two points prior to kick-off, and both hoping to leapfrog Atletico Madrid to go top of La Liga, there was so much at stake for the Kings of Spain. If we were worried that the game wouldn't live up to expectations, those concerns were put to bed on

Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona: Player ratings as Los Blancos edge entertaining Clasico

Sergio Ramos talks candidly about pain caused by Sevilla exit

Sergio Ramos has revealed how his 2005 move from Sevilla to Real Madrid caused a tremendous amount of pain for him and his family, owing to a spread of misinformation and lies. The legendary centre-back was one of the hottest young properties in world football when Real swooped to sign him over a decade and a half ago, and he's gone to enjoy incredible success at both domestic, continental and international level.Ramos' Real Madrid adventure has delivered multiple Champions League titles, while his former employers Sevilla have also risen to the top of European football - winning the Europa League an astonishing six times.Ramos has enjoyed astronomical success | VI-Images/Getty ImagesBut the manner of Ramos' departure has always been contentious. Ilaix Moriba should be Barcelona’s priority, not Georginio Wijnaldum

Barcelona have one of the greatest - if not the greatest - academies in the world. La Masia has produced the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi and, of course, Lionel Messi. And, although it hasn't produced players of the same quality for some time, the Barcelona youth setup has undeniably been neglected by the club in recent years.La Bluagrana have often opted to splash the cash on players who never manage to recreate previous form, stamp their mark or cement themselves in the hearts of Barcelona fans. Paulinho, Arturo Vidal and Arda Turan, for example, will all be - or have already become - forgotten men of Camp Nou.There is a lesson to be learnt here and, while many may
