Borussia Dortmund director Michael Zorc has confirmed there remains a gentleman’s agreement with winger Jadon Sancho that would allow the England international to leave the club this summer.
Sancho’s future was the hottest topic of the summer of 2020, with Manchester United pushing hard to sign him, and Dortmund made it publicly clear that they would be prepared to sell Sancho if United hit their asking price which, for some reason, they pretended wasn’t actually a thing.
Links to United have remained, and speaking to ARD (via Goal), Zorc again stressed that Sancho will be free to leave once any interested team meets their asking price.
“We already had a gentleman’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions,” Zorc said. “He’s been with us for a couple of years. In the end, the requirements were not met last summer.”
Dortmund‘s asking price for Sancho was thought to stand at around £120m last summer, but this year, Sport1 claim that the German side would listen to offers closer to the £87m mark.
90min understands that United are still keen to sign a new right winger and Sancho remains at the top of their wish list for the position, with the Red Devils hopeful his price will fall even more if Dortmund miss out on Champions League football.
The door is open for Sancho to leave, but Zorc was adamant that striker Erling Haaland is going nowhere.
“This gentleman’s agreement does not exist with Erling,” Zorc said bluntly.
Dortmund have made no secret of their desire to keep hold of Haaland, but that has not stopped his agent Mino Raiola from jetting all around Europe to listen to proposals from the world’s biggest clubs, all of whom want to land the Norway wonderkid.
It’s thought that Dortmund are prepared to demand as much as £150m for Haaland, but even that may not be enough to convince them to sell. If you want a Dortmund wonderkid this summer, Sancho’s your guy.
