Bernardo Silva has won 90min‘s latest Welcome to World Class poll, trouncing Manchester City teammate Phil Foden to take his place as one of the planet’s five best attacking midfielders.
The Portugal international has long been held in high regard for his performances with the Citizens over the past four years, and has roared back from a summer of transfer speculation to hit some stellar form throughout the 2021/22 season so far.
Silva has already scored seven Premier League goals this term – five more than his entire tally from the last campaign – and the vote put to 90min followers was incredibly one-sided.
While Foden has enjoyed an excellent 2021, Silva earned a convincing 80.1% of the vote to slot in alongside Neymar, Bruno Fernandes, Thomas Muller and Kevin De Bruyne in the rankings of the top five attacking midfielders in the world.
Having been linked with the likes of Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, Silva began turning in exceptional performances and has helped City reach the top of the Premier League ahead of fellow title contenders Chelsea and Liverpool.
He was particularly impressive in the 2-0 victory over Manchester United and the 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, while he also scored twice in a recent fixture at Watford.
Silva was featured on the shortlist for right forwards in the first edition of #W2WC, though he missed out on the final top five cut.
He joins fellow City stars Ederson, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan in being confirmed as world class footballers, while a number of his colleagues will be featured in the upcoming lists over the next week or so.
