Following the expiration of his contract with Milan, Barcelona has confirmed the signing of Franck Kessie on a free transfer.
Following months of speculation, the midfielder has signed to a four-year contract with the Blaugrana, which was made official on Monday.
Kessie spent five seasons at San Siro, the first two on loan, and helped Milan win their first Scudetto in 11 years in his final season.
He appeared in 31 of Milan’s 38 Serie A games, scoring six goals from midfield, a total only surpassed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic (eight), Rafael Leao, and Olivier Giroud (both 11).
However, the Rossoneri and Kessie could not agree on new terms, therefore the Ivory Coast international became a free agent on July 1.
Barcelona have always been considered the heavy favourites to sign the 25-year-old, whose Camp Nou deal includes a €500 million release clause.
Kessie will battle for a midfield slot with Sergio Busquets, Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong, though the latter is expected to join Manchester United.
Kessie has appeared in 174 Serie A games for Milan since signing from Atalanta in June 2017, with Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski (179) being the only midfielder to appear in more.
