Manchester United have had a bid of £10m for Kieran Trippier rejected by Atletico Madrid, with the La Liga outfit insisting he’s not for sale.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bolster his defensive options this summer with a centre back and right back top of the agenda.
First choice right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has settled into life at Old Trafford well since his arrival from Crystal Palace back in 2019, though doubts remain over the attacking side of his game.
Trippier’s ability to get forward has never been in question and AS report United have lodged a £10m bid with Atleti for the former Tottenham full back. However, the recently crowned La Liga champions are in no mood to entertain offers and have swiftly rejected the bid, with the report adding they see Trippier as a major part of their future plans.
United had hoped to be able to take advantage of Atletico’s precarious financial situation, though given the Spanish side forked out more than £20m for Trippier just two years ago it always seemed likely an offer of £10m would be snubbed.
While the England international has been listed as one of the Atletico players not for sale this summer, his rumoured desire to return to the Premier League could end up playing a huge part in United’s pursuit.
Now that the Red Devils’ interest has resulted in them tabling a bid for Trippier, it remains to be seen whether he’ll push for a move back to England, though with two years remaining on the deal he signed back in 2019 it’s likely to be Atletico who have the final say on the matter.
With negotiations between the two sides likely to continue over the coming weeks, a deal may have to be put on the backburner even if a fee is agreed as Trippier is away on international duty with England at Euro 2020.
