Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has admitted that he has left his agent to discuss his future with La Blaugrana, but he still remains happy at the club.
Vidal has started just four La Liga games this season and has often been forced to accept brief cameo appearances towards the ends of matches. Given his reduced role, the Chilean has been heavily linked with a move elsewhere, with Inter thought to be keen on Vidal.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Vidal has offers to leave Camp Nou in the January transfer window, but the player himself insists that he is not thinking about his future right now.
“It is an issue that was left to another person [his agent],” Vidal revealed. “I do not worry about that and less now that I am on my days off. I already did my job and my representative is the one who has to deal with that. I am very happy in Barcelona, so when I return to training we will see.
“I hope I can continue to stay in Europe for a long time. I am close to 100 goals playing there and I’m very satisfied with that.”
MD add that Barcelona do not want to sell Vidal whatsoever, and they are currently entertaining Inter’s proposal of a January loan move.
They see Vidal as an important member of the squad – someone who offers something different to the rest of the players – and consequently do not want to lose him.
However, there is no doubting that Vidal’s current situation is hardly ideal. He remains under contract until 2021, but there does not seem to be a permanent place in the team available for him, with manager Ernesto Valverde usually preferring the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Ivan Rakitić instead.
Fortunately, Vidal does not appear to be too concerned by the whole thing, as he insisted that his sole focus is on lifting the La Liga title.
“I am not the one who makes the decision to play or not – that is the coach,” he said. “But people see that, so that makes me calm and I will continue to take advantage of all the opportunities to continue scoring, which is what I like, and I hope to raise the title at the end of the season.”
