Manchester United and Arsenal are embroiled in another transfer war, with Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry the newest target.
The two Premier League behemoths are already reportedly vying for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, with the Daily Mail reporting that United is in pole position to sign the 24-year-old Argentine.
Gnabry, 26, of Germany, has emerged as a target for both sides after the Bavarian giants made him available for a bargain £40 million.
According to The Sun, all of the Premier League’s top clubs have been contacted regarding the winger’s availability, with Arsenal and Manchester United showing the most interest.
Gnabry is still a regular at the Allianz Arena, where he scored 14 goals in 34 league games last season to help Julian Nagelsmann’s team win the Bundesliga for the tenth time in a row.
He also has 20 goals in 34 international appearances, although Bayern are scared of losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer.
Gnabry received his first professional deal with Arsenal in 2012, but he was unable to make an impact in North London.
After allowing him to join Werder Bremen for £5 million in 2016, club authorities will be squeamish at the possibility of paying eight times that much to obtain a return.
He has previously stated his love for the club, stating in a 2019 interview that he “always remains a Gunner.”
For United, new manager Erik ten Hag is still looking for high-quality signings, and adding a player of Gnabry’s caliber to the ranks at Old Trafford would be a no-brainer.
Tyrell Malacia, a Feyenoord defender, is scheduled to join the Red Devils early next week.
