Allegri is upbeat ahead of the must-win match against Benfica
Massimiliano Allegri believes Juventus will “be fine” against Benfica on Tuesday, despite the fact that their Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread.
Juve have no margin for error following their shock defeat to Maccabi Haifa last time out, with anything less than victory in Lisbon resulting in their elimination from Europe’s elite club competition.
Even if they win this week, the Bianconeri will need another result against PSG while hoping Benfica loses at Maccabi.
Allegri, on the other hand, is confident heading into matchday five, saying in a press conference on Monday: “Tomorrow, I think it will be fine.” I could be mistaken, but I’m confident.
“We only have one result [to strive for]; we have not yet been eliminated from the Champions League, but we have also not qualified for the Europa League.”
“Two games, six points remaining, and our fate is not solely dependent on us.” Benfica, on the other hand, controls their own destiny.”
Similarly, defender Alex Sandro believes Juventus must “prove our worth.”
“This game is very valuable,” he said. “Only victory matters.” We’re here to win and have a good time. We are expanding. And we’re confident you can’t go wrong now.
“We’ll go out there and prove our worth.” We hope to be Benfica’s first defeat. I know some of them; they are very powerful. It will be a challenging game. There are individuals who can make a difference at any time.”
